Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care and Parish Nursing

My Memorial

Planning a memorial service for a loved one who has passed away can be stressful as the family tries to remember all that the person would have wanted. You can make it easier for them. The Pastoral Care Team has designed a form called My Memorial. This is a form that you can fill out and give to a family member if you'd like to help them make decisions about your memorial service.

Copies of this form are located at the Info Centre at Bethany Chapel or download it here.

Bethany Chapel is pleased to offer Pastoral Care and Parish Nursing within our church family. Pastoral Care exists to empower people to walk in wholeness and strength, enabling them to fulfill the purposes of God for their lives within the Bethany body and the larger community. We believe that wellness is a matter of the whole person - body, mind and spirit.

Pastoral Care at Bethany Chapel assists individuals and families in becoming more responsible for maintaining their own health, as well as that of their church family. The Parish Nurse works in conjunction with the pastoral staff and the elders to ensure an ever increasing effectiveness in our health ministries within our congregation and our local community.

As a blend of Nursing and Pastoral Care, the Parish Nurse at Bethany Chapel has responsibility over the following five areas:

1. Pastoral Care Coordinator

Coordinates pastoral care resources to meet the needs of the congregation and acts as a liaison among the Pastoral Care ministry team leaders, the staff, the elders, and all who attend Bethany Chapel.

2. Director of Pastoral Care Volunteers

Provides leadership, education, support and encouragement for the volunteers in the various Pastoral Care ministries.

3. Liaison to Community Resources

Connects people with resources in the Calgary community, as well as to resources within the Bethany Chapel community.

4. Health Counsellor

Participates with people in the blended role of nurse and pastoral care provider to facilitate health, growth and strength of faith in challenging times. The approach includes spiritual, bodily, mental, emotional, and relational health.

5. Health Educator

Provides health education material through the pamphlet cart and bulletin board. Health education opportunities and programs are planned to meet group needs as they arise.

After the funeral, when the cards and flowers have stopped coming, most of the people around you return to their normal lives. But your grief continues and you feel alone.

Often, friends and family want to help you, but don't know how. That's the reason for GriefShare. Our group is led by caring people who have experienced grief and have successfully rebuilt their lives. We understand how you feel because we've been in the same place. We will walk with you on the long path through grief toward healing and hope for the future.

GriefShare is a support group that meets weekly. You are welcome to begin attending our GriefShare group at any point.

Unless you've been there, it's hard to understand the hurt that comes from separation and divorce. That's why many of your friends and family don't fully understand what you are going through and don't know how best to help you.

We do. Our DivorceCare group is led by people who have been through divorce and successfully rebuilt their lives. We understand how you feel because we've been in the same place. We'll show you how to deal with the hurt caused by your separation or divorce.
